6 months ago – Thu, Nov 09, 2023 at 06:54:48 AM

Hey everyone!

Just letting you know that the Ultimate Cheat Sheet is wrapping up. I decided to add in a few more tables a the back of it and tighten up the bookmarks. I should have it available by tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience!

Ultimate Cheat Sheet... is in proofing! Wahoo!
7 months ago – Tue, Oct 17, 2023 at 12:55:44 PM

Hey all!

Some great news today. Ultimate Cheat Sheet is done and in proofing. I estimate that I typed the word monster roughly 3,500 times in this book. Woof. Once John is done proofing it, I'll tighten it up and have it posted in Backerkit, probably once I get back from Wisconsin, so early next week.

Thanks for your patience! It's *definitely* worth the wait.

Ultimate Cheat Sheet is coming along nicely (my brain might explode, though)
7 months ago – Wed, Oct 11, 2023 at 07:09:51 AM

Hey all!

I'm back from my annual sabbatical with the family (I discovered I really enjoy kayaking, so that's fun), but while I was chillin' with the fam, I was also working.

Ultimate Cheat Sheet is so near completion I can taste it. John's already proofed the first half of the book, and I'm banging out the second half. I know most of the XP awards for monsters sub 11 by memory, but once it starts getting into the high CRs, I gotta do more table referencing, hence the slowdown. Regardless, I'm almost finished with tier 3 and should have the rest done by the end of this week. From there, it's proofing, final edits, and production. Weee!

Anyway, I want to show you all a sample of what this will look like. I think it's pretty nifty. Keep in mind this sample is a higher tier, so it isn't yet proofed.

Hopefully, my next update will let you all know that the PDF for this is done. This is probably the most challenging item of the entire lot (next to the big book), so once it's done, it's going to be like dominoes with the rest of the goods.

PS The main book is officially printing. Our schedule got pushed up about a week or so because Alexander and I lost contact during the recent Chinese holiday, but it we're still mostly on track to start shipping in the next couple of months.

1,920 Encounters... and then some.
8 months ago – Mon, Oct 02, 2023 at 08:26:19 PM

Hey all!

Just a quick update. Happy October 2023. Hard to believe it's been a year since this Kickstarter. The main book is officially in production and should be here in just a couple months. The only thing that tripped us up on our schedule this year was the OGL headache back in January. It's put the accessories and secondary books behind, but those should be coming shortly.

In fact, I'm almost done with the Ultimate Cheat Sheet, which is, by far, the toughest product I've had to create out of all of them.

The book is organized into twenty sections, one for each character level. Then, each character level comes with six tables, each one representing a different number of monsters featured in the encounter, one to six (I personally don't like encounters with more than 6 monsters because it starts to get messy). The y-axis represents the relative difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard, and Deadly), as shown in the Dungeon Master's Guide, and the x-axis is the number of players, three to six.

For example, if you want a party of four 6th-level characters to fight a Hard challenge against three monsters, you'd first find the page featuring 6th-level characters, get the Three Monster encounter table, and see that four characters should go against two CR 3 monsters and one CR 2 monster. From there, you flip to the "Monsters Grouped by Theme" section and plug in the types of monsters you want that fit those CRs.

Let. Me. Tell. You.

This was quite an undertaking to create. I had to do the math, by hand, for 1,920 encounters. A single level worth of calculations can take up as much as two hours of time. And that's not even counting triple-checking the math.

Woof!

Anyway, I should be done, hopefully sometime early to middle of next week on the PDF, proofed and with all the requisite bookmarks.

Thanks all!

Finishing details on the GMSG main book for our printer!
8 months ago – Fri, Sep 22, 2023 at 07:19:10 AM

Hey all,

Just letting you all know that I'm still finalizing the details with Alex Hau and Asia Pacific Offset to ensure it's perfect. I'm pretty impressed with their process, as they've been way more detail-oriented than our past printers. So this should look pretty excellent once it's done.

Once the book is off to the races, you can expect us to start dropping the accessories, particularly a finalized copy of the how to write adventures book and the cheatsheet, which I think folks are most interested in.

Right now, priority #1 is the main book.
